Best Places to Travel in Lijiang

Lijiang is an ancient city located in the northwest of Yunnan Province. With a history of over 800 years, it is renowned for its magnificent landscapes and is also known as the "Venice of the East." The ancient city of Lijiang stands out among other Chinese cities in terms of architecture, history, and culture, which are closely intertwined with the traditions of the Naxi people, who continue to preserve their ancestral customs. In 1997, UNESCO declared the old town of Lijiang a World Heritage Site. Since then, the city has seen a significant increase in tourism, attracting a large number of domestic and international visitors every year. If you're looking for a fairy-tale-like country far from bustling metropolises, don't hesitate to come here. In this article, we will also present the must-visit spots for traveling in Lijiang.

The Jade Dragon Snow Mountain

Lake Lashi

Lake Lashi is located in the Hengduan Mountain basin, 10 kilometers from the Ancient City of Lijiang. Covering an area of 5,330 hectares, Lake Lashihai stretches approximately 9.3 kilometers from south to north and 8.2 kilometers from east to west, making it the largest lake in Lijiang. The Lashihai International Wetland Park was approved as a wetland reserve of the Yunnan Plateau in June 1998. Since then, the reserve has been rehabilitated, protected, and improved, becoming a paradise for thousands of birds comprising 57 species, a place where biodiversity has been effectively conserved. The Naxi and other ethnic minorities, rich in cultural and folk traditions, inhabit the area around Lake Lashi. The Zhiyun Temple, situated by the lake, is considered one of the five temples in the city of Lijiang.

Lugu Lake

Lugu Lake is located about 300 kilometers from Lijiang. The center of the lake forms the border between Yunnan and Sichuan provinces. It is a plateau lake with a total surface area of 52 square kilometers, situated at an altitude of 2,685 meters above sea level. Surrounded by mountains, this lake is known as the "Mother Lake" of the Mosuo people. There are five islands in the lake, with the most popular being the Gemu Sacred Mountain (Lion Mountain).
